The Natural Dye Garden has done it again!
This community project run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers from Drefach Felindre Gardening Club in conjunction with the National Wool Museum and involving the local primary school’s Eco Group has won a Green Flag Community Award 2019. This is for the third consecutive year and is quite an achievement!
Saturday, 28th September saw the official raising of the flag and we were delighted that this year the honours were performed by Peter Hughes Griffiths who had just done a very successful and informative historical walk through the village.
The garden’s beautiful display of plants used in the natural dyeing process is inspirational. The vibrant colours are exceptional this year. Not only does the garden look attractive but it is educational too. A recently produced leaflet, complete with colour chart, provides information regarding the dyes produced from the various plants grown. The project harvests the plant material and uses the natural dyes in the end of season workshops.
